Objectives

Short-Term Objectives 

The short-term focus of the Committee for Geelong will be to:-Secure funding for its operation as a not for profit organisation.

  • Establish an executive and build a strong diverse membership base.

  • Define key projects to focus initial energies.

  • Establish taskforces using our diverse membership base.

  • Establish a positive community relationship.

  • Improve community attitudes to economic innovation and dynamism.



    Medium - Term Objectives

    The Committee for Geelong aims to act as a catalyst to significantly improve the quality of life for the Geelong region.

  • Advocating an environment of awareness among residents, ratepayers, business community, Local Government, State Government and Federal Government of the need for support for the creation of an alternative economic base for employment opportunities.

  • Building a community wide understanding of the evolving National and International economic landscape. We will endeavour to build a community consensus of the steps Geelong should take to position itself to benefit from the evolving economic landscape.

  • Pursuing policies to improve community prosperity. This will require stimulating employment and economic opportunities by promoting the strengths of the region’s diverse infrastructure, human resources and potential for growth. This recognises the need to drive innovation and dynamism throughout the Geelong business community.

  •  Promoting Geelong as an attractive location for cultural, sporting and tourism pursuits that recognise the outstanding geographic and social features of the region.

  •  Ensuring that developments are environmentally sustainable. This emphasises that maintaining the balance between economic and social well being and the natural environment requires sensitive and careful management.

  •  Advocating for the social and economic infrastructure necessary to provide the opportunity for each citizen to fulfil their potential. Areas of specific interest are in education, health, transport, communications, cultural, housing and other human services.
