Jennifer Cromarty, CEO at the Committee for Geelong

“The Committee for Geelong fully supports and encourages the development of a hub at Avalon Airport as part of a quarantine solution for Victoria. The facility is strategically located in proximity to Melbourne and the Geelong region and also in a suitably isolated area so that international arrivals can quarantine on arrival safely in self-contained cabins.

“I congratulate Avalon Airport CEO Justin Giddings for his vision to work on a solution that would benefit all Victorians.”

“In our recent research report ‘Resilient Geelong: Reasons for Success and Challenges for a Post-COVID-19 Future,’ it states that “Geelong also has particular opportunities as a consequence of Avalon Airport being an international airport in a regional location, which may well facilitate travel bubbles into the region from offshore and from around Australia.” (ref. p 66)

“We are hopeful that the Victorian Government gives Avalon Airport the go-ahead as a site for a strategically placed quarantine hub as it would provide an excellent longer-term option to manage the challenges we face as a result of the pandemic.”
