The Future of Central Geelong series of virtual member briefings aim to dive deeper into the issues, challenges and opportunities facing central Geelong in a COVID-normal world.

Kicking off in May, the series is due to run through to June on a range of topics where experts in their field will share their ideas and plans on how to best design central Geelong’s future.

The first briefing of the series is titled, Urban Design and the Importance of Place Making, and we'll welcome Nat Anson from URBIS to discuss the importance of placemaking in the context of the Geelong CBD.

This Future of Central Geelong series has strategic links to :

  • The Committee for Geelong’s Strategic Action Area: Dynamic and Creative Geelong – “Having a vibrant central Geelong that performs a clear function in the greater Geelong area is an essential component for a ‘Clever and Creative’ city, particularly in relation to commercial demand, retail offer, nightlife and entertainment.” 19772_A5_Strategic_framework_final.pdf
  • The Resilient Geelong report: ensuring a vibrant, creative, sustainable Central Geelong will help inform and support a range of recommendations from the report Johnson-et-al.-Resilient-Geelong-Research-Paper.pdf
  • Central Geelong Framework Plan – due to be released in late April, the Committee for Geelong will be making a submission in response to this important document.
  • Engagement and information gathering to support the development of “Plan Geelong”.
