Committee for Geelong announces that Michael Johnston has resigned and concluded his role as Chief Executive Officer.
Since joining the Committee for Geelong in 2023, Michael has contributed to the organisation's advocacy for a prosperous and inclusive future for the Geelong region.
His tenure has included the delivery of the Future Geelong project including the innovative Future Geelong Interactive Map, the introduction of the Future Geelong Leadership Awards in partnership with the Geelong Advertiser, the bold and collaboratively designed Green Heart proposal for the Market Square site and successful advocacy through the 2025 Federal Election that saw funding commitments delivered to the region.
Michael has overseen strong membership growth and engagement, and his period of leadership also included a strong commitment to the Leaders for Geelong and Activate programs which continue to play an important role in developing the region's future leaders.
The Board thanks Michael for his contribution to the organisation and to the Geelong region and wishes him every success in the future.
Michael said: “It has been a privilege to lead the Committee for Geelong over the past four years and to work alongside the organisation's members, staff and our region's leaders. I am proud of the Committee's work advocating for Geelong's best future, a world-class city that is inclusive, progressive, smart and sustainable. I wish the Board, the team and the incoming leadership every success and look forward to seeing Geelong's continued growth.”
The Board has met and will announce interim leadership arrangements as soon as possible. The Committee's strategic priorities, programs and advocacy for the Geelong region continue, with the Board overseeing operations during this transition.
