The Committee for Geelong is proud to announce the launch of a new documentary episode, Moving to Geelong, created in partnership with emerging filmmaker Luke Buesnel. The episode is the latest instalment in Buesnel’s popular Streets Discovered YouTube series, which explores the evolving identity of Australian cities and towns.
Premiering today, Moving to Geelong offers a fresh and compelling look at why Geelong has become Australia’s fastest growing region. The documentary breaks down outdated perceptions and highlights the city’s vibrant lifestyle, thriving economy, and welcoming community—revealing why so many are choosing to make Geelong home.
“People in Geelong understand why our city is such a great place to live, work, and play,” said Committee for Geelong CEO Michael Johnston. “But as our city grows we want to keep sharing our story to attract more investment, more talent, and continue to shift the outside perception of Geelong from what we were to what we are.”
The Committee partnered with Streets Discovered to reach new audiences and showcase Geelong’s transformation through authentic storytelling. “We loved the way Luke has told stories of other locations around Melbourne, and we wanted to see Geelong given that same opportunity,” Johnston added. “People are moving here because it offers a lifestyle like nowhere else. Geelong is truly Australia’s most lovable city, so why not share the stories about why it is.”
Luke Buesnel, whose series has built a cult following online, said the inspiration for the episode came from personal experience. “So many of my friends have moved from Melbourne to Geelong. I wanted to discover why for myself,” he said. “Calling Geelong ‘Sleepy Hollow’ is now just wrong. It’s a place with restaurants and activities to rival big cities, but small town heart. I love that about Geelong.”
The documentary is now available to stream on YouTube and is expected to reach thousands of viewers in its first week.
